Magnetic Makeup Board
This past weekend I went up to visit my mom for the day on Mother's Day. If I haven't mentioned it before, my mom basically has an entire craft store in her spare bedroom! I've been wanting to make this magnetic make up board for some time now. So I rummaged through some of her stock of paper and products, finding tons of paper to choose from along with these delicate decorative flowers. We also picked up a $3 frame from the local dollar store. As soon as I got home I started on my project!
I started out by painting on Martha Stewarts magnetic paint. I put about three coats on the glass from the frame. The paint says to let dry an hour in between coats, but it seemed to dry quickly, about 30 minutes. I did leave it 24 hours after the last coat as mentioned on the bottle.
Next I wanted a rustic, antique look for the frame. I lightly sanded the frame and then wiped it clean. I also borrowed these awesome stains from my mom's closet! I played around with them until I achieved the look I wanted. I used a white and green stains to create just the look i was wanting!
To give the frame a little more girly look I added the adorable flowers to the edge with hot glue.
After finally deciding on the perfect paper from the stash I took, I used double stick crafting tape along the edge of the glass to adhere the paper to it. Unfortunately the paper I chose was smaller than the glass size leaving me to use two sheets. You can see the seam but I placed it toward the bottom of the glass so it's less noticeable.
Final step is to glue magnets to the back of your make up! I don't know if it is this particular paint or if the magnets I have aren't strong enough, but they weren't holding the makeup containers so well. BUT, I made it work for what it's worth! I will try finding some other magnets to see if they work better, but it does hold a piece of paper so you could use it for a regular message board! Either way, I'm so pleased with the outcome! It's even prettier in person! Enjoy!
